Kings vs. Avalanche: Fantasy Hockey Intrigue
In what seemed to be at the beginning of the year a bad NHL hockey matchup, brings two teams who are in fact—-bad. The den of mediocricty lathers Staples Center tonight, as the Colorado Avalanche 2-3 take on the surprisingly .500 Los Angeles Kings. The Los Angeles Kings schedule has been anything but novice to start the year off playing powerhouses San Jose, Anaheim and Carolina, winning the latter two. The Los Angeles Kings are lead by captain Dustin Brown with 1 G and 3A and stud center Anze Kopitar 1G 2A. Surprisingly, Kopitar has started off lethargic and it has been the play of journeyman Michael Handzus who has contributed at a point per game pace, contributing the GW goal in overtime against the Carolina Hurricanes 3 days ago. With Joe Sakic playing in what might be his last year, the Avalanche don’t look to make much of a splash in the West this year. Milan Hedjuk is good, not great, Joe Sakic is still a point per game player, Paul Stasny is the new-look to the team and Peter Budaj is not a good NHL goalie and is on the verge of being benched permanently. Look for these two teams to rack up the goals tonight. Fantasy Outlook: Anze will break out tonight (he’s due). Drew Doughty will collect his first NHL point tonight and is a respected +2 on the year and Joe Sakic will contribute a PPP. If the Avalanche dress Scott Parker, look for him to find a dance partner in Raitas Ivanans. Also, Ian Laperriere loves to step it up a notch against his former team scoring 5 points in 7 games over the last 2 years.

Drew Doughty? How’d you call that one last night? Impressive.

Doughty has been uber-impressive this year. Leading the team as an 18 year old rookie in ice-time. He’s been manning the top powerplay line with Brown and Kopitar and is bound to get his points even if by default with those two on forward. Last night Doughty could’ve had a three point game, but a post and the inability of Dustin Brown to finish on the doorstep hinder it. He’s good, really good.
