And the Rest Begin…
Tonight we have 4 games on tap, with what looks to be a high-scoring affair in Detroit, as the Wings take on the Maple Leafs. With the addition of Marian Hossa, who by Hossa standards had a terrible year with only 66 points, after a 100 point season prior. Look for Hossa to rebound this year while playing alongside Zetterberg and Datsyuk. This is the most dynamic line in the NHL and they all might be near or over 100 points by seasons end. Hossa’s line tonight should look like 1G, 1A, 8 SOG, +1. He didn’t fair well against Toronto last year with only 2A in 4 games, but we expect his 06/07 numbers of 8 points in 4 games to be the standard. Also look for the other big two (Zetterberg and Datsyuk) to both put up multiple point games as the Wings skate their way to victory from a Stanley Cup celebration high. NOTE: Keep a watchful eye on star defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom as he is recovering from a broken nose. Expect Lidstrom to be +2 with 5 SOG and a PP assist.
Another game to watch is Anaheim vs. San Jose. Will Super Joe have a stable line? Will Selanne be as good as he was 2 years ago? Will Getzlaf contend for MVP? Look for Joe to pick up a PP assist, and Getzlaf to lead the way for the Ducks. On paper, this game looks to be a defensive showdown with Nabakov and Giggy in net. Don’t expect a high-scoring affair and be happy with getting a point from one of your starters, should you have any players on these teams. Star to watch tonight: Ryan Getzlaf, he brings size and speed and plays with another great talent in Corey Perry. Look for Getzlaf to have 1A, 2 PIM’s, 3 SOG.
Calgary vs. Vancouver will again showcase to great goalies in Luongo and Kippy. Look for a low-scoring night in this game as well as it is turning out to be a 2-1 final score. Phanuef is a beast and his line tonight will be 1 A, 1 PP, 2 PIMs and 6 SOG. If you have one of the two goalies, play them with confidence. Colorado vs. Boston looks to perk up the score sheet. With the return of Joe Sakic for what looks to be his final season, expect a nice night from the super captain with a 2 A, 6 SOG line. Look for the big man Zdena Chara to contribute on the power play and keep an eye on Phil Kessel. This might be the breakout year this former fifth overall pick will reach the 30 goal plateau.
